This was created during one of the worst winters in over thirty years in Western New York state. A portent of climate change, perhaps?
I wanted to evoke a sense of human absence during the prolonged periods of sub-zero degree weather.
Soft pastels help make the landscape shimmer, while grease pencil shines like ice. The sumac bushes and tall grasses offer the only softening in the otherwise hard scene.
