Sunrise, Alsace. Ahh…. I traveled to Bas Rhin in June 2014 on a genealogical adventure, searching for information about my great-grandfather, Fritz Kieber’s family. While exploring the little villages where my ancestors lived, I was struck by the light, the flowers, and the windows. This picture was created from a photo of a window in Wissembourg, not one of my ancestral towns, but the city nearby on the current German border. The people and relatives we met were friendly and happy. Our guide said it was the wine! Whatever it was, I was in love and I particularly loved this beautiful window garden and I wanted to express not only the beauty, but the joy and life the flowers gave me. The wooden mask, which was actually hanging, I kept in the picture as a reminder not only of my ancestral ghosts, but the ghost of the absent gardener as well.
May all your sunrises be this lovely.
