Sophie Wiener’s Pecan Mandel Brot

1 C. butter

2 T. shortening

1 C. sugar

3 eggs

3 C. sifted flour

1 tsp. Baking powder

1/4 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. vanilla

t sp. cinnamon

1 tsp. lemon juice

1 C. chopped pecans

pinch salt

  1. Cream butter, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy
  2. Add eggs and beat thoroughly
  3. Stir in dry ingredients, blending well.
  4. Blend in Vanilla, Lemon juice, and nuts.
  5. Refrigerate at least one hour
  6. Form into 3 or 4 rolls and place on a large greased baking sheet.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and slice
  9. Put back on cookie sheet and toast at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or longer.
