This is a tender, soft, sweet bread that is delicious as is, or, when formed into a ring with dried fruit added for a Jesus Birthday cake served on Christmas morning.
INGREDIENTS
4 C. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 T. lemon rind
¼ C. warm water
1 C. warm milk
¼ C. sugar
1 C. butter
1 pkg. yeast
1 egg yolks, beaten
DIRECTIONS
- Mix flour, sugar, salt, lemon rind together
- Cut in one cup butter
- Add pkg. yeast to warm water and stir until dissolved
- Add this to the warm milk and eggs and then add flour mixture
- Mix lightly
- Cover tightly with foil and refrigerate at least 2 hours (or overnight)
Make into rolls and allow to rise until double in bulk – about one hour
