Grandma Helen Lasecki’s Butterhorns

This is a tender, soft, sweet bread that is delicious as is, or, when formed into a ring with dried fruit added  for a Jesus Birthday cake served on Christmas morning.

INGREDIENTS

4 C. flour

1 tsp. salt

1 T. lemon rind

¼ C. warm water

1 C. warm milk

¼ C. sugar

1 C. butter

1 pkg. yeast

1 egg yolks, beaten

DIRECTIONS

  1. Mix flour, sugar, salt, lemon rind together
  2. Cut in one cup butter
  3. Add pkg. yeast to warm water and stir until dissolved
  4. Add this to the warm milk and eggs and then add flour mixture
  5. Mix lightly
  6. Cover tightly with foil and refrigerate at least 2 hours (or overnight)

Make into rolls and allow to rise until double in bulk – about one hour
