Growing up on the New Jersey shore, I became a poet, seeking to express the universal human experience in metaphor and rhythm.  After a year as writer-in-residence at the American School of Bombay (Mumbai), I returned to Western New York in pursuit of an M.A.  in literature.  I then taught  at the State University of New York at Fredonia while I continued writing and publishing poetry.

 

Meanwhile, I trained in working at the edge, going deep within my heart and soul as a practicing yogini and yoga/meditation teacher. Experiencing unknown territory with my body and my mind has had a profound impact upon my art making.

 

My education in visual art began later, when studying with Cuban American painter, Alberto Rey and the American tonalist, Raymond Bonilla. I learned traditional techniques, creating representational images, portraits, interiors, and landscapes.  That shifted when I moved to Albuquerque, where the vistas of sky and landscape, and the desert living -- the searching that the desert has stirred in people and prophets for millenia --inspired me to open myself and go deeper, painting intuitive abstraction. This freed me and offered a way of expressing  all that I experience and see.

 

A member of the Pastel Society of New Mexico, New Mexico State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts , the Rio Grande Art Association, the New Mexico Art League,  and a founding member-director of Albuquerque Abstract Artists Alliance, you can also find my art on Instagram and Facebook.
